Christopher Follett was described by his personal trainer as a “softie, not wanting to push himself”; this is of course was before he started training with Luscious Luke. He even described himself as slack he would prefer to watch TV than walk the dog. Another problem was not just my beer belly but my fitness in general was a huge problem because I want to join the Police Force. |

Mary-Catherine McGrath or M.C as she has been fondly dubbed is a fit athletic young woman with lots of energy. Although this could not always be said about her before she started at F Factor Fitness. Not being able to participate properly in aerobics at school did nothing for her self confidence. Upon starting at F Factor Fitness M.C was determined to change her outlook on life and that’s exactly what happened.

When Nicole started at F Factor Fitness she really just wasn’t happy with the way she looked, she didn’t even have enough energy to get through the day. She had tried the Tony Fergusson Diet, but not seeing the results that she was looking for quickly disheartened Nicole and once again she gave up. Once I started at F Factor, I found that they kept me motivated and moving towards my goals, says Nicole. Her personal trainer Paul is the main reason she has stuck to her exercise regime says Nicole when asked why she has been doing so well. Kathryn Barker or “Cougar Kath” as she has been nicknamed started out at F Factor Fitness on the 25/7/2004 weighing in at 83 kg. She was overweight, not exercising regularly, and she most certainly did not have a healthy outlook on life. Russell first joined our centre when it had just opened under the name of Stay N Shape. According to his wife Bernadine, he came once and that was that. So this time, with some encouragement (arm twisting) from his wife Bernadine, in July 2006 Russell was re-joined on an F Factor Platinum Membership with 1 Personal Training per week. Bernadine knew that he wouldn’t stick to it if he had to train on his own – that was what happened last time.
Russell weighed in at 94 kg, had a torn rotator in his left shoulder and being a business owner had a work schedule that was very busy and demanding. His golf handicap at the time (very important) was in the low 20’s. Russell’s goals initially were to shed a few kilos and regain the fitness that he once used to enjoy. Russell utilized the knowledge and experience of Paul to assist with rehabilitating his injured shoulder, so once a week would go through countless repetitions of exercises to gain a full range of movement and rebuild his strength. |

The F Factor Dictionary has a new meaning for inspiration - Susan McGee.
Susan had her life flash before her eyes late last year when she suffered a major heart attack. Her cholesterol was at 5.9, she was eating the wrong foods “especially chocolate” and there was an old person moving into her body.
Susan’s cardiologist recommend that she had to start to exercise for 30 mins per day, so she joined F Factor with her daughter Evie. Susan’s training started with some gentle walking on the treadmill, and before long, her “stuff this I want to enjoy a long and healthy life” attitude kicked in, and she increased her duration of her sessions, and started using some of the other equipment. Susan even started participating in classes!

It’s been almost a year since our next member of the month, Jodi Mackinnon, stepped into F Factor and almost a year of looking back and imagining what life would be like without her new found fitness. Coming into the centre Jodi’s fitness was at an all time low and she had little to no energy to put into herself, her growing family or her two successful businesses. Her enthusiastic cry’s for help partnered her up with her much loved trainer Nat, known to Jodi as “Nasty Nat”.

Jodi Schedue our next reigning member of the month has managed to beat the winter blues and achieve astonishing results over the last few months alongside her training pal M.C! Yes Mary-Catherine we had to mention you as well, because you are one of the reasons why Jodi chose to tackle her health and fitness goals head on! M.C introduced Jodi to the F Factor team at the beginning of 2007. Jodi was given a New Member Program in the first week which consisted of weights and cardio 2-3 times per week as well as teaming up with MC in group fitness classes. Together as hard as Jodi found it they began to add more classes to there routines as the weeks went on. |

.jpg) Elizabeth Collins always thought exercising was for “crazy people” until she joined forces with her “crazy” F Factor Personal Trainer, Jeannette. For the first couple of weeks after joining F Factor, just getting up the stairs was a big struggle for Elizabeth. With the help of her trainer, Elizabeth built up her strength and conquered the gym stairs. Injuries that Elizabeth had sustained in her legs had taken its toll on her body physically and mentally, disallowing her to complete basic tasks such as walking a flight of stairs and collecting the mail. Suffering from bad knees plus tendon and ligament damage, Elizabeth knew she had to do something to live a life that was going to be fulfilling to her family and to herself.

Bernadine Jones has had a progressive story over the last few years and like most of us, she has watched the scales and dress sizes go up and down. Bernadine’s story started back when F Factor, (back then known as Stay 'N' Shape) first opened many workouts ago. Bernadine would come in and slog out cardio session after cardio session and over a 2 year period she lost approx 20kgs. In Bernadines words, I was thin, but It was not a nice thin. I went from sqeezing into size 16, down to 10. But the clothes didn’t sit very well and I was just skin and bones.

In September 2006, via taking her daughter to a dance class next door, Marta Lipscombe a Mother of two, homemaker and self-confessed workaholic made her way into F Factor after months of contemplating whether or not to join a gym. The gym was only a 1 minute walk away from the dance school, so Marta saw this as an opportunity to make some use of her valuable time while waiting for her daughter. Marta definitely made use of her time once joining the centre! She was introduced to Nat who was to be her very own personal trainer who made sure that her training sessions weren’t just for time wasting! Through loads of blood, sweat and tears, Marta has come along way since then and is now more often looking to make extra time to get to the gym!! |

If you could explain our next prestigious member of the month in one word or more you could expect the following to arise….MACHINE! or how does UNIT sound?! There is definitely one word in there that has hit the nail right on the head when it comes to describing Grant Dorrofeilds training drive that keeps him coming back to F Factor for more and more! He definitely does not take his training ‘lightly’ and without fail, gritting his teeth, will always push himself that little bit extra. Looking back this was a huge struggle and the surprising thing is, this was not too long ago! |

Almost a year ago, Robyn Beattie would never have pictured herself attending a unisex gym. She felt uncomfortable with her size and lack of self confidence, which was at an all time low, from the embarrassment she had felt, from not ‘fitting in’ with the small knit groups of people that she had experienced at her previous gym. Her previous centre was an environment, where no one would take a genuine interest in her legacy to achieve her health and fitness goals. Adding to this her doctor had advised her that she had to loose weight to keep her sugar diabetes (TYPE 1) under control.
So at 94.5kgs Robyn came into F Factor via the IGA only enquiring about a number because she was too scared to make it up the stairs. Robyn was greeted with a huge smile and a warm welcome from Kylie that made her feel comfortable and that straight away created a friendly atmosphere that she could easily find herself adjusting to. |

Taking over her daughters membership, may have been the best decision that our member of the month, Suzanne Grills, has ever made! Weighing in at 155.9kg Sue’s health was a time bomb slowly ticking away, with a list of medical conditions such as type 2 Diabetes, going on to be insulin dependent, as well as High Blood Pressure and Back Problems. She found that she was lacking energy and it was becoming a challenge to stay mobile while trying to function and look after her growing family on a day to day basis. |

Another Member of the Month and yet another inspirational story! Teneille’s journey began at 99.9kg and a wedding proposal. Shane commenced his membership in January 2005 weighing in at 122kg. He suffered from 2 bad knees, no energy and really struggled with his health and fitness which was worsened by him being a smoker and eating bad food. Shane also enjoys playing cricket, but found it really hard with no energy – when he was running to chase a ball or in between wickets, he felt like he “had nothing”.

Dot commenced her membership here at F Factor Fitness nearly a year ago..... she had never previously exercised or been to a gym, and at 63 years of age, you can imagine was a rather terrifying experience! When she started she had no energy, was unfit, flabby and struggled every day just trying to close the garage door with both hands as she just didn't have the strength. It didn't help that she had also had a shoulder injury due to general "wear & tear" and had received SIX quarter zone injections! |
